MHASC wins 2nd Battle of The Sound – Sunday 13 Nov 22

Commodore Graham reports:

A big thanks to our team of 18 sailors from MHASC who brought home the ‘Battle of the Sound’ trophy on Sunday.

MHASC won with 75 points, from VYC 2nd on 81 points, MYC on 100 points, and NSC (with no standard rigs) on 149 points.

While VYC had the strongest result in the radial fleet, MHASC was clear of the rest in the standard fleet led with a winning performance from Will Sargent.

Well done Will, and best wishes for the NSW Open States next weekend. Other scorers in the standards were Nick Alexander (who raced despite not feeling the best), Ryan McLoughlin and Phil Bookallil.

In the radial fleet Jeff Loosemore, Rob Lowndes, Naomi McKeown and Frank Walsh sailed very well contributing to the score. Great to see Naomi doing very well in race 1, and Frank in race 2 – to complement Jeff and Rob’s consistently strong results.

There are some great photos of the event including many of our members on the BOTS website; link here; BOTS photos.

A number of members scored some of the numerous ‘lucky door’ prizes generously given by PSA.  Among the winners, Phil Bookallil (‘Lucky Phil’) won a cutting edge carbon tiller.  Kevin Reeves won a spars bag.

A big thanks to Rob Lowndes who helped with the Sailing Instructions and represented MHASC with me on the organising committee.

Thanks also to Ben Williams for joining me on the MHASC rescue boat yesterday– we had a great day watching some excellent racing in good conditions.

VYC will host next year’s event and we can expect them to be totally fired up for that one! – it’s getting bigger and better each year!

The post race presentation event, food, drinks were great thanks to MYC and ‘Sailors Bar’ at Northbridge. Bringing home the trophy was the best of all. Well done to our MHASC team.

Special thanks to Peter Stephinson (he won a t-shirt!) who took a number of us to MYC on his power boat ‘Bubbles’, and returned us to MHASC with the prized trophy onboard.
