A program offered by MHASC to help new members, newer members, and potential members develop and progress their racing skills and confidence at no charge. The program is run by an ILCA sailor who has national and international regatta experience who will provide guidance and assistance. You must be a registered and financial ‘Member’ or ‘Temporary Member’ to participate.

As a guide to start the program you should have a reasonable degree of fitness, experience helming a single-handed dinghy (or yacht) and able to right a capsized dinghy. Ideally you can tick around 75% of the boxes in ‘Start Sailing 1’ (page 8) and ‘Start Sailing 2’ (page 9) in the following link, Four steps to racing.

Sessions are both ‘off-water’ and ‘on-water’ and focus primarily on improving the skills in ‘Four steps to racing.’
There is flexibility in the program to adjust to the skill levels of the participant group with the schedule tailored accordingly.

The sessions usually run from 10am to around midday on every second MHASC race day, refer club race Calendar. Start time will adjust for daylight savings.

You must be a ‘Member’ or ‘Temporary Member’ to participate in ‘Learn to Race’ and there is no requirement to compete in the MHASC racing events later the same day.

You can email MHASC (mhasc.laser@gmail.com) or contact Nick Alexander on 0498 059 188 to enquire further about Learn to Race.
